St. Mary's Pltn. owned by V. Saurage & H.C. Hicks, located in Bayou Goula La area. The parish of Ibverville book states it's closer to Eureka and Magnolia Pltn. One of the early owners of Eureka Pltn. was Dr. Henry Doyle, Persac's 1858 map of the Mississippi River.Plantation shows Doyle owner, Adolph Meyer a subsequent owner purchased Eureka from a David Urquhart in 1886 and sold it to Maurice Hanlon in 1886 (Convey. Book 19 #27) This land described as having 4 arpents on the Mississippi to a depth of 80 aprents on the upper side where it is bounded by St. Mary's Plantation owned by V. Saurage and a depth of 90 aprents on the lower side where it was bounded by Magnolia Plantation belonging to Maurice Hanlon. It contained about 1200 acres of land. Written by Judy Riffel. Also I have read where the legendary inventor of the Bowie Knife (Jim and his brother Rezin Pleasant Bowie Jr moved to Ibverville in 1802 and eventually settled in Opelousas. In 1840's Rezin Jr. Bowie purchased land on the West side of the Mississippi and some slaves from Paul and Adeline Saurage (T #469).Rezin Jr. Bowie sold this land and slaves a year later to De la Fayette Heath.(T #308). This land was 2 1/2 arpents fronting the river and was bounded by above land of John McDonell and below by Houseaux.
Paul Sr(Nicholas, Caietano) Saurage marr Marguerite Adeline Trosclair.
Their child

Alphonsine Saurage b: 7/15/1850
married on 6/13/1872 La
Pierre Hargoua(Hargooa)

This couple lived in Biloxi Miss.for awhile, Alphonsine died there, then Pierre moved to Plaquemine.

I show one children from this marriage.

Ada Hargoua b: 1875 d: 1928
married on 2/24/1892 Plaq. La
Charles Jacob Valcourt Marionneaux b: 2/27/1870 d: 8/15/1948 Beaumont, Texas.

I show in my records that this family owned dairy farm in Plaq. but it was destroyed by flood waters in early 1900's. He then moved to Beaumont Texas. His funeral services were held at 3:00 pm on 8/16/1948 at St Anothy's Catherdal (Catholic Church). Buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont Texas.

I grew up in Beaumont Texas but I live in Baton Rouge La now. My husband and I have inherited and also manage land in Morganza La. that was handed down from the Tircuits. I have in my records a marriage of a Tircuit to a Stocking. There a little over 1000 acres and is called M.E. Stocking Estate.

What a small world.

Mr. Trahan I went to Caldwood Elem. and had a boy in my class named Randy who lived right down the street from the school. I also attended Memorial Jr. High (Orig. Forest Park High School) where I went to school with a different boy but also named Randy and lived in Tyrell Park. I'm just wondering if this could of been your child.

It's a small world after all. I grew up in the Caldwood area with 3 brothers and seven sisters last name being Ryall. We all attended Kelly High School. I visit Beaumont often and my parents still reside in Caldwood but do not care about family history. All of my sisters and brothers live in Texas. I myself like the Louisiana Life. We actually hunt on the land and lease the rest for cattle grazing, hunting leases and a little soy bean growing. Can't wait to retire to Morganza La. in the future.
