Anderson Moss and Elizabeth Hayes

I am new to genealogy and haven't done a ton of research. I just want everyone to know in advance that if you ask me for historical proof, I will not be able to provide it at this time.

A story on my mother's side of my family says that we are descended from a family of slaveholders in Louisiana, the Anderson Moss family. Anderson was born on 11/15/1792 and died 12/4/1851. His wife, Elizabeth Hayes, was the daughter of David Hayes and Pelagie Leleu.

Elizabeth was known by the name "Miss Betsey" and after Anderson drowned on the Bayou Teche, Elizabeth ran the plantation. The circumstances surrounding his death are mysterious and if anyone recognizes these names and has a story of Anderson's death, I would very much appreciate any tales your family had told through the years.

I don't know if it needs to be said, but I don't support slavery, I think it was a terrible institution, and I am not going to make any excuses for my ancestors owning fellow humans. I would just like for us all to learn more about our ancestors' histories so that we may all get as complete a picture of them as possible. If you would like to contact me off the board, please do so.
