New Iberia, Louisiana - Mary War Nan JOHNSON Laster
Posted by: Toni Linn (ID *****4450) Date: August 22, 2008 at 23:21:00

We are looking for further information on the father of Mary War Nan Johnson Laster. Mary was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on 9 March 1837 and married Elias LASTER on 1 Nov 1854 in Obion County, Tenn. Her mother was Elizabeth (Eliza) Johnson and her father a Dr. Johnson.

According to family tradition, Mary's father was a physician and possibly owned a plantation in Louisiana. It is believed that he died in New Orleans when Mary was a child. His widow (Mary's mother), Eliza, then married Henry Callis in 1844.

We are looking for:
1. Elizabeth's (Eliza's) maiden name and place of birth
2. Dr. Johnson's first name (Mary's father) and place of
birth
3. Any other info related to Dr. Johnson and/or Eliza

According to information put together by Marion Laster, Mary War Nan Johnson is said to have been part Indian, but it is not known if it was on her mother or father's side. Mary's mother, Eliza, was also said to be of French and Creole descent.

Thank you.
