1) Is Ward 6 otherwise known as Oak Ridge? Not really. Each parish is divided into subdivisions called wards. Each ward covers a different geographical area and has distinct boundaries. For genealogical purposes the ward number gives more specific locational information than does the name of the nearest town or post office. You just have to be careful that they haven't changed the ward boundaries over time. 2) Where can I find information on physicians in Oak Ridge? Can't answer that one. 3) Does anyone have any information on the TURPINs, LARKINs, the PETERKINs, or the BAIRDs? There are numerous entries for these families in the cemetery surveys. If you would like a list I can put it up for you. Some of the tombstone inscriptions have the family relationships. For example, Mary Larkin Baird's (1869-1947) indicates that she is daughter of Porter J. and Mary Turpin Larkin. Of course, you might want to fun of "discovering" these for yourself. 4) Are there cemetery listings for the Catholic and Episcopal churches in Oak Ridge? There are listings for these in the book, Known Burials in Morehouse Parish, published by the Family History Club of Bastrop (1994). Looking through this book I see members of these families buried in five cemeteries: Christ Church and Old City cemeteries in Bastrop, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Mer Rouge, Church of the Redeemer Episcopal in Oak Ridge, and Oak Ridge Baptist in Oak Ridge. Unfortunately, Dr. Thomas J. Turpin and his wife are not in this list. Baynard Turpin (b. 1809) appears to be the elder in the Turpin family. Baynard had a son Thomas B., born in 1853. 5) Is TURPIN Post office anywhere near Oak Ridge? It does not appear that Turping PO is still operating. Hope this helps, Dale Notify Administrator about this message?
