Many thanks, both to you and to Sally Percey. "My" Francis LaBarre is doubtless the 39-year old silversmith of the 1860C of DC, wife Mary (30, b. in NY), children Bianca-6 and George-1, both b. Washington DC. He is doubtless the LaBarre who served a year in Co. H, 7th VA, having been in the DC "National Volunteers" at secession, and then entered business in Richmond doing metal work for the govt and producing badges and insignia. A postwar newspaper article from Petersburg states that he returned to DC to find his wife married[sic] "to a Yankee" and took his children to an uncle in Germany. He later went to Texas, where he is reported to have committed suicide c1871. "Mary Labarre" is found in 1890-1891 DC city directories, living on Ohio Ave. NW.
