Mary (Vaccari) LaBelle-Kopenski Obit
ADRIAN — Mary Kopenski, age 94 of, Adrian passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility.
Mary was born June 2, 1913, in Caspian, Mich., the daughter of Joseph and Angela (Nori) Vaccari. In 1933, she married Verne William LaBelle, and the couple owned and operated Pike’s Bar in Stambaugh. Verne passed away in 1969. In 1972, she married Walter Kopenski, and the couple made their home in Stambaugh, Mich., until he passed away in 1997. To be close to her children, Mary then moved to Homewood, Ill., and later moved to Adrian.
Mary was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. She loved music, singing and dancing. Mary also enjoyed fishing and cooking.
Mary is survived by one son, Verne (Ann) LaBelle of Fort Worth, Texas; three daughters, Joyce Carmine of Homewood, Ill., Arlene Todd of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Jeanne (Bob) Shewchuk of Adrian; a stepson, Keith (Sharon) Kopenski of Iron River; a brother, Joe Vaccari of Plainfield, Ind.; three sisters, Josephine (Jack) Singler of Iron River, Jean Ross of Iron Mountain and Rita Donelson of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial for Mary will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian with Father David Hudgins as Celebrant. Private burial will be at Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River, Mich. Friends may visit the family at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Vincent de Paul food pantry at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wagley Funeral Home.
