There was a Pierre Balan, from Cantillac(?), Dordogne, France who came to Quebec and married Renee Birette in 1672. When his wife gave birth, he started to call himself Pierre Balan dit Lacombe. He died under the name of Pierre Balan. His children change their name gradualy afterwards. So no one continue the name Balan as it was. Today there are Lacombe all over North America. But there is still Balan and Lacombe in France.
