Hi Dee: My great-great grand-father was Gilbert Lacombe married with Mathilde Michaud. When Régis Lacombe was widowed of Délima-Edith St-Jarre dit Sergerie, he married again and had one son by his second wife, his name was also Gilbert Lacombe. Régis is buried in Clair NB, there is no marker, but he is buried in the back right of the cemetery. He had a son named Guillaume Lacombe (William) who was a first world war veteran. He was wounded by mustard gas and suffered from delayed stress syndrome. When he returned from the war, he could not stay here. He went to Québec province and was a fisherman in a town near Bay Comeau. Then prohibition came. He became owner of a fishing vessel, then seven more with many employees. He ran rum, etc from St-Pierre-Miquelon, a French island where Al Capone once visited. William ran liquor to Boston and New York and returned to his fishing village, having caught a few fish on the way back so the authorities wouldn't be too suspicious. It didn't work. They caught him and he lost everything, dying quite poor in his fishing village. This story I learned from his descendant when I went to work in Labrador in the 70's. Genetics never lie: he looked like the spitting image of my gg grandfather Gilbert Lacombe, but without the beard! Régis Lacombe was the son of Pierre Lacombe and Théotiste Ouellet. She had been married before to another Ouellet and had a son by this first marriage. His name was Thimothée Ouellet whom Pierre Lacombe raised. Thimothée was more often called Mothée, Mathé and in government documents he appears as Matte Willet.
