Hi Hayden, Well in those days, no tv, no light except candle, they were farmer and some had a business. All they had was children so they did. Joseph & Josephte, parent of Marthe, had 13 children (6 boys, 7 girls).
When their father was baptised, it was under the name of Marie-Joseph. Since they didn't know how to read and write, they didn't see what the priest wrote down. The priest thought it was a girl and so it went. They had to correct the entry when Joseph-Marie got married.
So that was life in those days.
