Claire,
Like you, I have seen several postings in different places regarding Moses Lacey/Lacy/Losey and having different birth dates and parents. I have been researching the Moses Losey/Lacey of IN. and I can tell you these facts and give sources for the information.
Moses Losey, b. abt. 1760, at the time of his enlistment he was living in Morristown, Morris Co., N.J. He enlisted in the 2nd N.J. Regt, commanded by Col Shreeves on 1 July 1778, and was discharged 5 Mar 1779. On 14 Aug 1832 he was a resident of Randolph Twp., Dearborn Co., IN. All of the above information can be confirmed by his Revolutionary War pension. Moses Losey/Lacey died 23 Feb 1836 and is buried in Randolph, Ohio Co. IN.
I have seen many references to his being the Moses Lacey who married Henrietta Pratt, but this is not possible as Moses Lacey who married Henrietta can be located in Christian Co., KY in the 1810 census, and the above said Moses Losey/Lacey is in IN in 1810. Christian County Kentucky History & Biographical, pg. 304 states that Moses Lacey was from Maryland. It does not say N.J. Moses Losey that was born in N.J. and served from that state was living in Dearborn County, IN, in the 1830 census, pg. 13, while Moses Lacy of Christian Co., KY. was in that county on pg. 10.
Somewhere along the line someone got confused with these two Moses Losey/Lacey's and submitted the information to the LDS library and now it is accepted as fact. I have even seen family files that list both parents of Moses as having been born in VA., all other children of the couple born in VA., and Moses listed as born in N.J.
I hope someday this will get ironed out.
