I have seen your postings about John Grant’s (-1836) wife on several genealogy.com sites.
I am interested in the John Grant and first wife Lydia/Violet of Boteourt and Bedford Co., Va. late 1700s. I actually descend from John and Lydia's daughter, Keziah Grant, who married Dance Brown, the son of Edith Brown, who was John Grant's 2nd wife. John married Edith in Bedford in 1794. This John Grant with his children and Edith's children migrated out of Bedford County to Montgomery/Giles County then to Russell County, Va. by 1804/1808 when John and Edith dissapear. The Browns (Dance and 2 siblings) moved to Sumner Co., TN by 1808. If living, John and Edith may have come along as well, but I have no proof at this time.
You mentioned in one of your postings about John Grant ( - 1836):
"I know of no Court record that has identified his wife. Grant and Samson (1974) suggested an unknown Lacey, and latter in the summary, a Russell.
A recent note on Rootsweb list a Lydia Vilet Lacey as his wife but no Court or other record is provided. I have always associated Lydia or Vilet with the John Grant of Bedford County, Virginia due to a Parish record. On the other hand, a “Lacey” would be great in that Effie L Pattee working for Grace Grant in the 1930s suggested a Lacey."
My question is two fold. First, do you have anything else at this point on my John and Lydia of Botetourt/Bedford County? And secondly, you mention a Parish record in the paragraph above. Could you share that document with me? It might help me along with this John Grant. Here is another bit of data I have. Dance Brown and Keziah Grant had 5 children, the youngest being James Brown (1815-1889) who states in the 1880 Sumner County, TN censes that his mother (which is Keziah Grant, daughter of John and Lydia), was born in Maryland.
I have lots of deeds and tax list information on my John and Edith Brown Grant if you or someone else is interested, I can be contacted by personal email:
I will also send this to your email address, as well as posting on this Russell and Grant Family genealogy forum. Thanks - Freddy Brown
