David,
After checking my info and dates, I have concluded that Robert M. La Force was a cousin to Samuel Benton La Force.
Robert M. was a son of Robert La Force (he may have been a Jr) Robert was the son of Samuel La Force b. ca 1750
Samuel Benton was the son of Rene La Force, the son of the above Samuel.
Robert relocated to Claiborne Co, TN from Botetourt Co,
ca 1812/14 and Rene and brother Samuel La Force, Jr. relocated to Brekinridge Co, KY about the same time.
Another brother John went on to IL/IN. Samuel,Jr. moved on to IN by 1819.
