My name is Justin Lahey. My great.greatgreatgrandfather was from county Kilkenny in Ireland. He was in the British army on duty in India with an Irish division. Hetried to kill his Adjutant and without the army history was charged with 13 other Irish soldiers and deported to Australia 1845/54 from Madras as aconvict. His wife was Mary and followed with three children. After serving his time eventually had 11 children. From research 1 other Lahey came as a free settler but they were the only 2 Laheys in Australia[not a common name in this country]. His name was James. WE were told by family they originated in France and fled to Ireland during the revolution the family name was then D'Leahey not sure of spelling. Can you give any further information?
