Hello,
I am the great-great grand daughter of Bridgett Nyhill Lahey. 'Birdie's' grave is the first monument you approach from the gates of the family cemetery, and likely Birdie's was the first resting place there.
Her only child Alice Lahey Bell (wife of Cliff Bell, County Clerk for many years in Hugoton), was the mother of their only surviving child, Oliver 'Jelly' Bell. My Grandfather.
My mother was raised in Hugoton by the Bell family and has much of the oral history of the family.
I found the book 'The History of Stevens County and It's People' a valuable resource.
Also, my mother and I made a pilgrimage back to Hugoton a few short years ago to replace Jelly Bell's headstone. The kind ladies of the Lahey Ranch gave me a copy of their own family history book to take home with me. I dutifully made a copy of their book and returned the original to the Lahey Ranch with a photo of Birdie. The fine Lahey's did not have a photo of Birdie in their collection. One of the ladies, June Lahey, (my goodness, how are we related on the paternal line?), was most gracious to offer me her family book of knowledge.
I'd be glad to share with you any of my information. Contact me here: [email protected].
