The following was sent me by a professor at ND University: "Lahy is distinct from the more common "Leahy" . In the church records resarsched in Ireland, the name was usually spelled LAHY but from time to time the more common LEAHY was used. This was particularly true in the earlier records. According to the Irish census of 1890 there were only 313 families then living in Ireland families WHO USED THE SPELLING. oTHER SPELLINGS: LAYHEY, lEAHEY, lAHAY AND lEHAY
