You are quite right. Apparently my surname has changed its spelling a few times. Tracing back from me it seems to go like this "Lahay" "Lahaie" "Lahair"? and to the Irish name Leahy, notably Thomas Leahy. All I know is that my grandfather used the surname Lahay and not Lahaie as his father, my ggrandfather Joseph.

I am very interested in learning more about the Leahy surname especially Thomas Leahy and his wife Catherine Willow.
