Thank you for your reply.

James Runciman is first found in the account books in Georgetown in the 1790's.

After further investigation the Runciman connection to the Laings in NY turned up to be a dead-end as far as I could tell.

I do not think I can shed any light on the Laings to help you unless you would like a copy of the NY Laing information I found in NY.
