Joe,
Here's what I know: Patrick Lalley was married May 4, 1874 to Maria Cassidy (I'll address the Casserley issue in a moment) at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon Pennsylvania. The marriage register says he was from County Mayo and his parents were PATRICK LALLEY and HELENE BOYLE.
The 1900 Sharpsville census is wrong about immigration dates. They were married in 1874 and their first child was born in 1875 in Pennsylvania.
The death certificate for Patrick Lalley of Mercer County, Pennsylvania lists the following:
Death Registration Docket No. 2Page 97-L Line 145
His date of death was June 20, 1904.
He was a WHITE, MARRIED, MALE, AGE 53.
Occupation:LABORER
Place of Death: SHARPSVILLE
Cause of Death:ABSCESS
Duration of last sickness: 2 MONTHS
Place of interment: ST MARY
Date of interment:JUNE 22,1904
The death certificate for his wife Maria Lalley lists the following information:
Date of Birth:May 4, 1851.
Date of Death:June 4, 1932 in Sharpsville.
Place of birth:Ireland.
Father was THOMAS CASSIDY, born in Ireland.
Mother was **** KANE, born in Ireland.
The informant for the death certificate was Martin Lalley (probably her son of record).
Patrick was my maternal great grandfather. The family always said his wife was Maria Teresa Casserley. On her church marriage record she reported that her parents were THOMAS CASSIDY and MARIA CAINE. We thought the "Cassidy" was a spelling error made by the priest, but when her son reported the same name for her father I became a believer.
I know she had a sister Catherine Casserley Boyle in Sharon PA so I've sent off for her death certificate to see who her father was. Cassidy or Casserley?
I hope I've been of some help. I started my genealogy in November of 2004 and already have made contact with living cousins in Mayo and Chicago on the McNally side of my family.
Good luck,
Mary Jo
