Lamberton; Scotland to New Zealand, 1874

My sister, Christine Gilbert, wrote on this forum almost two years ago.
I want to follow up with a request for any info. on the Lamberton family in Kilmarnock or surrounding area, either pre-1874, or still there now (year2000).
We know only that a Janet Lamberton, nee Sinclair, aged 60, widowed, migrated to NZ on the sailing ship "Strathnaver" along with 4adult children & their families. They left Scotland 31 August, 1874.
We would be interested in finding out earlier background; who was Janet married to, and what happened to him; were the family always in Scotland or where did they come from before that. My father said that some of his uncles tried to trace our family tree many years ago, and believed there was some connection with William the Conqueror, and that the Lamberton name may possibly have French origins.
Any information would be appreciated - with thanks.
