Janet Boyd was married to Thomas Lamberton, I have just got a copy of the marriage certificate for their son, Joseph Lamberton. Joseph married Elizabeth Sinclair on 31/12 1867 in Kilmarnock. Joseph was my great-grandfather, and must have been on of the four adults who came over with Janet.

I have not gone back further with any certainty yet, but I have doubts about the name being Norman. Word of mouth in my family says that the name was anglicised from a Scottish name not too far back. There was a Thomas Lamburghton born in 1798 in Craigie, near Kilmarnock, who may have been Janet's husband, his father was Alexander Lamburghton. Before this there a couple of Alexander Lambrughtons (slightly different spelling again) living in Kilmaurs in the 1700s. Kilmaurs is just outside of Kilmarnock and there is a tiny village marked on the maps (but not the indexes) called Lambroughton. I think the name comes from the place name.

I have sent off for the marriage certificate of Thomas Lamberton and Janet Boyd, and so may have some more information after that.

Duncan Lamberton
(From N.Z. but living in UK)
