William Lamberton, Bishop of St. Andrews

Greetings to all fellow Lambertons!

Our family is Scottish, and ancient. The name first appears on the pages of history as a witness to a Royal Charter made by King Edgar to the monks of St. Cuthbert in Scotland, in the year 1098.

On June 17th, 1298, William Lamberton, previously the Chancellor of Glasgow Cathedral, was consecrated as Bishop of St. Andrews, by Pope Boniface VIII, in Rome. Bishop Lamberton played a prominent role in the Scottish War for Independence.

More recently, during the First World War, the U.S. Navy launched a destroyer, DD-119, the USS Lamberton. It served through the end of WWII.

My interests are more in the history of our family, and the role our ancestors have played in history. Please contact me if you are of like interest.

Suas Alba! (Gaelic for "Up with Scotland!")

C.G. Lamberton, FSA Scot ~
