LAMONT dit NORMANDIN
I just saw the postings here about the LAMONDA family and NORMANDIN connection. My gggrandfather was Michael LAMONT dit NORMANDIN, who was born in Vermont in 1827. I have had no luck pinning down his birthplace. The oldest record that I have found for Michael was from his wedding in Bourbonnaise, Illinois, in 1854, where the church record lists him as NORMANDIN, but the civil record has him as LEMONT. He is listed as the son of Louis NORMANDIN who I am told was from Boucherville, Quebec. After 1870 his family was known as LAMONT. It seems very likely that "LAMONT dit NORMANDIN" could have been transformed into LAMONDA or LAMONDY as the family made its way into the US from French Quebec and dropped part of the dit name. I am very excited to see another family with a connection between these two surnames!Any new info would be appreciated.
