I read the letter that you posted March 29, 2001 re: the LaMothe family. I don't know if this is any help or if my family is related to your friend in any way, but my Grandfather's name was Edward Joseph LaMothe, born in 1893. I don't know much about his family background, but I do know that he was part Black and part Indian. My mother told me that he had a brother named Norman LaMothe, in addition to Wilbert and Benjamin and a sister, Beulah. My grandfather use to tell me stories about how when he was a young boy he would visit his grandmother who lived in a hut (his term for teepee). I'm not sure where his Grandmother was from, but Edward grew up and lived in Algiers, Louisiana for many years before marrying and moving to New Orleans. There is still many of the LaMothe family living in Algiers. I too am new to genealogy research and in the process of meeting with one of my Grandfathers relatives who may be able to give me more information on the family. I hope this is some help to you and if not, good luck on your search for your LaMothe's.
