I just married into the Lamothe family and am trying to find info on my husband's family.
This is what I know so far:
My husband's father is Robert G. Lamothe (with brother Donald and sister Lorraine,) son of George Lamothe, son of Wilfred Lamothe. I found census records on Wilfred, but it appears he was born in CT, and a while before George married Mary B. (?) so I'm not sure if Wilfred was an actual Lamothe, a son from Mary'previous marriage (if she had one,) or a nephew or something they took in. I know in those days (early 1900's,) it was taboo to have children out of wedlock, so my theory is that he's from a previous marriage or something and he took the Lamothe last name once George came into the picture. I could be wrong though... but giving them benefit of the doubt on pre-marriage child. I don't know Mary B.'s maiden name or anything about her. Apparently she was a washerwoman and George was a laborer. Wilfred became involved in the printing industry (quite probably the Southbridge Herald.)
Wilfred died young in 1925 of pneumonia in Southbridge. (Apparently he was drunk, fell asleep in the street and died.) His son George, was only 2 or so when this happened. Wilfred's widow then went on to marry another man (Tremblay) and had a child, J.Armand Tremblay (George's half-brother.)
My husband says they are all from Quebec originally. Apparently they all came and settled in the Southbridge/Worcester area.
If anyone has any furhter info, please let me know. I can be reached by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org
