This is turning into a very interesting correspondence!
I have now acquired 4 certificates from Mauritius.

The first is a copy of the birth certificate for Joseph Lamothe that Tony talks about. The second is a copy of the birth certificate of Louis Alfred Lamothe that you brought to our attention. These certificates make it clear that Joseph and Louis Afred were brothers.

The third certificate concerns the marriage in 1861 in Mauritius of Charles Lamothe and Marie Antoinette Martinet (parents of Joseph and Louis Alfred).

The fourth certificate concerns the death in 1892 in Mauritius of Charles Lamothe, husband of Marie Antoinette and son of Gabriel Lamothe and his wife Louise Perdrean.

There is apparently no record in Mauritius of the death of Marie Antoinette Lamothe (nee Martinet). After the death of her husband in 1892, did she go to New South Wales or Queensland with one or more of her sons Joseph and/or Louis?

Can you now tell us something about the grandfather that sparked this correspondence: eg his christian name and rough date of birth?

And Tony: how do you know that Marie Antoinette Martinet's mother was called Josephine Amelie?
