Francois de la Mothe of St. Sever-sur-l'Adoar, Gascony and Jeanne Foissard of St. Sever-sur-l'Adoar were ancesters of mine and they lived in France in the late 1600s. Their son , Francois-Lois De Lamothe ,a soldier married M. Anna Leroux in 1697 at Charlesbourgh, New France and second wife M. Anne Bourdon 11-18-1715 at Beauport,New France. They came to New France in the late 1600. I was told that he might have been a Hugonaut, French protestants. The next generation ,after Francios-Louis, changed the name to La Motte. Andre Lamothe, you may well be a distant cousin of mine. The furthest bact that I can trace to family is to DAX, FRANCE; this city was an old Roman town. Also, it appears that the family derived its name from property owned by the d'Albret family. The d'Albret family owned a vineyard they called de la mothe, now known as Chateau Margaux , excellent or best vineyards in Southern France. Yes, working the puzzle back. Note on their list of wines bottles with the name De la Mothe on the lable. This happened in the 12th Cent. ( 1100s). It sure sound like the de la mothe family was a branch off of the d'Albret family ( a very wealthy, old, Gallo-Roman family). Can you search the records in Dax, or see if you are related to the de la Mothe family from Dax? Thank you. I am waiting to hear from you.
