I recently obtained the Will for Joshua Lamphier III, married to (1) Martha Hill (2)Nancy Youngs. The Will is dated 20 April 1852. He lists is age as "74 years and upward" which makes his birth in 1777 or 1778, not 1784 as previously written. (I am a descendent of his son, Joshua IV who was living in WI at the time the Will was written.)
I'm trying to verify if Joshua III is the son of Joshua Lanphear II, b abt 1737 in Hopkinton, Kings Co., RI (not CT),married to Anna (Amy) Satterlee 13 Nov 1769. Joshua II's Will lists his sons by age in the following order: Lemuel, Samuel, Joshua Junior, Reuben, Richard. I have seen several dates for the children, but none in this order. One would think the Will would be the right source, wouldn't it? I have seen Richard listed as the oldest b. in 1770, but this can't be right. If this is the father of my Joshua III, then his birth in this lineage must be 1777 or 1778 according to his own Will.
Does anyone have some information to help clear up this lineage for Joshua II?
