Jack

I would be happy to supply you with many names from my hand-written genealogical document, which was written about
1840 by my great great grandfather, Orlando Jones, who married Anne Eliza Lanphier, a daughter of Joseph Lanphier, who apparently lived in Waterford, Ireland.

It started with Thomas Lamphier-Lanphier 1666-1731 & Elizabeth Kyle 1670-1732, and it goes down 8 generations to the present days. I suspect those who supplied you with the names of the descendants of Thomas and Elizabeth Lanphier, may have the same document as I have at the present. However, if this is not the case, I would be most interested to see them.

I am satisfied that two of their sons is Thomas Lanphier (1699 - 1741) & Elizabeth Jane Going and John Lanphier (1702 - 1771) & Anne Foulkes; they are well documented.

But I am somewhat less satisfied with the documentation of a Thomas Lanphier of the Black Horse (4th Irsh Horse Regiment), which is said to be son of Thomas Lanphier (1699 - 1741) and a brother of Goin Lanphier (1733 - 1813). This must be a mistake somewhere as two brother could not possibly share the christain name, I believe.

Can you throw any light on Thomas Lanphier of the Black Horse (dates unknown)? Definitely, his son is Jospeh Lanphier (dates unknown); his grandson is Joseph Standish Lamphier (1797 1864); and great grandson is Joseph John Herbert Lanphier (1859 1895)

I would say that the army regiment would be the best source to throw more information about the army career of Thomas Lanphier. However, I understand it should not be confused with a Thomas Lanphier (1779 - 1823) Lieut Colonel 86th Regiment of Foot, who is a son of Thomas Lanphier (1742 - ??) and grandson of John Lanphier (1702 - 1772) & Anne Foulkes.

Hope you will help me about Thomas Lanphier of the Black Horse.

Andrew Taylor
8 times grandson of Thomas Lanphier (1667 - 1731)
