I wrote in 2007 that Thomas Lanphier (1779 - 1823) served as Lieut Colonel in the 86th Regiment of Foot. He died on 20 May 1823 and buried in Ballymurren graveyard, shortly after he retied by sale of his commission on 23 January 1823, according to Richard Cannon's Historic Record of the Eighty Six.

He was largely responsible for the Coat of Arms of Lanphier from Betham, Uslter, for his greatfather, who was believed to be Joseph Lanphier (1702 - 1772) & Anne Foulkes at the time of my writing.

I have since received a very invaluable information from Paul H. Lanphier, who complied a small Lanphier family history booklet in 15th July 1979, revised in May 1981. This finally confirms that Lieut Colonel Thomas Lanphier (1779 - 1823)'s grandfather was actually John Lanphier (1702 - 1772) & Anne Foulkes.

The quality of this booklet was very remarkable because the author did carry out all the work on the registry of deeds; marriage license bonds of Cashel; Burke's Irish Family 1976 p692; the "Landed Gentry of Ireland" Burke 1958 p423; "Lanphier & Related Family Genealogy" by Edward E Lanphere 1970; severals land deeds, namely land deeds #28784 dtd 4 July 1722, #128461 dtd 17 April 1733, #180893 dtd 19 April 1770, #543832 dtd 19 Sept 1825 and many more deeds; Walkers Hibernian magazine Mar 1772 p 168; and the wills of Simon Max dtd 1732, John Max dtd 1769 and Thomas Max dtd 1777.

I have to say that Paul did a very remarkable work, and the copies of the booklet were passed down to the descendants of Lieut Colonel Thomas Lanphier (1779 - 1823). Until then, I didn't know the existence of Walkers Hibernian magazine Mar 1772, so I would welcome anyone to come forward with any additonal information about this magazine.

In addition, Anne Foulkes was the daughter of Anthony Foulkes and Elizabeth Max; she married John Lanphier on 10 Jan 1740 and John died in 1771 in Parkstown, Co Tipperary.
