I've just recently found out that Lampkins was the maiden name of my husband's great-grandmother. It was written on his grandmother's SS application that her mother was Mead Lampkins. Since she died at an early age , my mother-in-law didn't know much about her. I believe that the Almeda Lampkins, daughter of Samuel Lampkins, listed in the 1850 Sullivan Co. census is that Mead Lampkins.
I'm just starting to research the Lampkins name, and I don't have a lot of information yet. I'm concentrating on Sullivan Co. right now because that's where I found this line in 1850, 1880 and also in 1900. Also, my husband's grand-mother was born in Bristol, TN.
1850 Census of Sullivan Co., TN.
Lamkins, Bob 32, Sarah 29, Eliza 24
Lampkins, James 45, Willie 19, Eliza 17, Sue 13, Mollie 11, Bell 8, James 6, Sallie 3
Lampkins, Sam 40, Maggie 38, Thomas 13, Ellen 11, Watkin 8, Almeda 1
(I think Sam's name is Samuel and Maggie's name is Margaret. Samuel's father was supposedly George.
I believe that Bob, James and Sam were brothers.)
