Vera:

My guess is that the Robert A. Lampkin you identified was a brother of my great-grandmother. I believe this because Co. F of the 24th Infantry was a unit from Gwinnett Co., GA, and that is where my Lamkin ancestors lived. There was only one Lamkin family there by 1850 (mine), and in it there were four brothers: William Franklin, James T., Augustus, and George W. (these names are from the 1850 census). If you look in the roster of Co. B of Cobb's Legion, you will see a James T. and William Lamkin along with Robert A. I am supposing that these three were brothers and that Robert A. was really Augustus.

I know something of James T., who later lived in Lawrenceville, but I have never learned what happened to William or Augustus. Neither seems to have returned after the war. Do you have any clue about Robert A.?

Thanks for any help.

Sue Ellen Fealko
