British Lamports
I am currently researching the Lamports from Hampshire and Dorset. If there is anyone out there who could help in anyway I would greatly appreciate it as there is very little information on the internet and I live in South Africa!!!! very frustrating to say the least.
What I know:
Grandmother: Geraldene Irene Fifield Lamport b. 1915 Croydon
GGrandfather: Richard Fifield Lamport b. circa 1883 Hampshire. Was one of 8 children, but the only one to have children
GGGrandfather: Herbert Reeves Lamport b.1859, Droxford, Hampshire.Married Gertrude Elizabeth Fifield of Littleton, circa 1882.He was one of 4 brothers all born in Droxford. We assume that the eldest Henry T. Lamport was a bachelor, but cannot confirm. The second son William George Lamport married a Fanny T. Unknown, circa 1878/9 and had two daughters. We presume Fanny died as he remarried a Alice Reeves in Dec 1887.He lived in Droxford and as far as we know never moved away from the area. The youngest brother Charles Lamport moved to Southampton where he founded his law practise Lamport and Bissett in 1878.He married Lucy Ellen Babor from the Channel Islands in 1879.Family recollection has it that she was the daughter of an Admiral, but we stand to be corrected. They had two sons and two daughters. We know that the one daughter was called Nellie Lamport and that she moved to Australia where she became a well known TV actress.Although she married we don't know what her surname became as she kept her maiden name as her stage name.Arthur Lamport became a solicitor and joined his father's firm.He later married Fanny Kate Hammett and died 1941. As far as we know he had no children. His other brother we think was called Harold and that he had twin sons namely Peter and Alec Lamport.
GGGGrandfather: William Henry Lamport b. 1820, Poole, Dorset.
He was one of 5 children all born in Poole and christened in the Presbyterian Church. He was a surveyor and married Francis Reeves, the Miller's daughter, when he moved to Droxford on a land surveying job...we presume.
GGGGGrandfather: Thomas Lamport married Mary Unknown
It has been passed down through the family grapevine that our family was somehow connected to the Lamport and Holt shipping line, but have yet been unable to confirm this. The only link I can possibly think of is that Thomas Lamport's father and William James Lamport's father were brothers.William James Lamport was one of the founding members of Lamport and Holt.
If there anyone can help in the smallest way I would be extremely grateful
Karin
