Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Rusheck Lana, 84, wife of Tobias Lana, who died at her home, 1005 Twelfth Ave. SE, at 10:07 pm Friday, were held in the Leslinger-Polansky Chapel at 2 pm today.Joseph Mekota officiated and burial was in the Bohemian National Cemetery.
Born in Czechoslovakia on Aug 15, 1843 she came to this country at the age of nine with her parents and two brothers, Joseph and John Rusheck, and settled on a farm near Solon.The trip across the ocean was made by freight boat taking six weeks to make the journey which was a stormy one.At the age of 18 she was united in marriage to Christopher F. Sigmund, of near Central City, on Dec 2, 1861 in the old log court house in Marion.
To this union were born ten children: Mary Holub, of Prairieburg; Rose Howard of Miles City, MT; Edward Henry, who did in infancy; Frank A., of Cushing, MN; Frederick, who preceded her in death six years ago; Christopher, of Ocoal, WI; Annie Selway, of Dillon, MT; John M., Joseph J., and George P. Sigmund, all of Cedar Rapids.She also leaves sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, five nephews, and two nieces.She was of the Catholic faith and kept this faith to the end.
