John,
You're just as curious as I am about some of those early family in Virginia. There is a lot more I have found that I have never seen any claim to as well. What happened to Gowin Lancasters decendants?
Just working out some of the old wills in that early area, displays some large families, with no decendants putting claim to.What happened to the Early Northumberland County, Virginia Lancasters, Brothers decendants, Nicholas Lancaster, Richard Lancaster and John Lancaster? Some of there decendants, Joseph Lancaster, John Culbert Lancaster, Aaron Lancaster, Nelms family, several Richards, John's, many others. There was more than enough information, to work up a large family, just from all the old wills connecting this early family together.
I think so many researcher, are trying to main stream there research instead of looking at the whole bunch in the area that they have been lead to and missing the boat altogether.
Since your also working on Robert Lancaster of Isle of Wight, VA.You might want to tract Arthur Allen, Jr.'s movement to discover where Robert Lancaster came from, since he received land for his interduction of Robert Lancaster into the Colony. But did he come from overseas, or from the upper Colonys, as the British established the headright system, to reduce the over population of the the Northern Colonies and encourage new settlers into the new Southern Colonies as they were secured for saftey from the Indians. Many researcher forget about the ships traveling up and down the eastern seaboard.Land travel passage had to be paid as well, I seem to remember that the Indian guides recieved food/supplies trade items for there assistence to give safe passage for the early settlers into the southernly colonies, to collect the land from the headright system, as well. The headright system was devised for all British subjects, to reduce the over population in the northern colonies and encourage more movement from over seas.
From what I already have on the Allen family, I think that Arthur Allen, Jr. was born in Virginia. In order to obtain land he might have been bringing in northern colonist, the slaves name he brought in had common names, he was paid for two trips on himself, a trip there and a trip back. All the names on his list will have to be checked out in some of the northern colonys as well.Did the Allen family have a shipping business, did he apply for passage through Indian Territory? So many researchers forget about the American History lessons we were taught in school as young children.
