Nancy Lancaster is my gggg grandmother. She is the daughter of Jesse and Prudence Whitehead Lancaster.I am descended from Arthur and Nancy's daughter, Emily Ann Peninah Taylor (1859-1934), who married Abner John Braswell (1856-1907) on December 11, 1877 in Edgecombe County, NC.
Jesse Lancaster, father of Nancy, also served in the Civil War, enlisting at age 68 in Co. F, 40th (3rd Artillery) NC Regiment, the same regiment his son-in-law, Arthur Dew Taylor, served in.He is probably the Jesse Lancaster who also served in an Edgecombe County company during the War of 1812 and the Jesse Lancaster who served in Co. E, 1st NC Regiment of Foot Volunteers during the Mexican War 1846-1848 as he is the only Jesse Lancaster I can find in Edgecombe County.
I don't know who Abner John Braswell's parents are but family tradition is that it was Joseph James Braswell and Lucinda Proctor who married June 7, 1844.I don't believe it was them because according to the 1850 Edgecombe County census, Joseph James Braswell is living with his mother and has no wife or children. He also has no wife or children according the 1860 Census of Edgecombe County.
Hope this will help!
