Dempsey Powell is not the father of Mary Ann Powell Lancaster

This is my second attempt to correct some misinformation on the Powell family of Smith County who were intermarried with several Lancaster family members:

The children named in the deed are the children of Jesse and Rhoda Braswell Powell. Jesse died in 1802 in Smith Co TN: “Tuesday, December 21, 1802. Court met according to adjournment. Members present: James Hibbetts, Peter Turney, Elmore Douglas, John Lancaster, and James Draper, Esquire.” ...“Ordered that Rhoda Powell have letter of Administration on the estate of Jesse Powell, deceased, who came into Court, gave security and qualified according to law.”
Rhoda died in 1812 and it is her property that is being sold in 1813 & 1814 and names the sons, dau. Rhoda(in 1813 deed), and the husbands of the other daughters. In the 1814 deed, Rhoda has married William Eslick and he is named in stead of her. The known children are Martha who married James Varner and moved to Marengo Co AL, Mary Ann who married Robert A Lancaster, Unk dau who married Robert Lancaster, Rhoda who married William Eslick, Allen married Mourning Unk (no children), Jesse who married Elizabeth Lancaster, Dempsey who married Unk, Unk dau who married William Hughes and John who married Nancy Lancaster.

There is an inventory of Rhoda's estate Dec Term 1812 in Smith County court documents. I hope this helps; Dempsey was the son and brother not the father.
