Circa 1870s photo of Albert L. Lancaster

I purchased the subject undated studio portrait of a young man taken by Abell's Art Gallery, Grass Valley, CA. It is identified on the back of the mount in period handwriting:

"Compliments of
A L Lancaster"

The only possible candidate for this individual that I came across by searching on ancestry.com is Albert L. Lancaster, who is listed in the 1870 Census data for Nevada Townshiop (resided at the National Hotel in Grass Valley), Nevada Co., CA; and the 1880 Census data for San Francisco (resided at 1002 Geary Street), San Francisco Co., CA. Born about 1856 in CA, he was the son of a hotel keeper, John A. Lancaster, born about 1827 in ME, and Mary L. (maiden name unknown), born Jan 1830 in ME. Albert married Grace P. (maiden name unknown), born about 1859 in CA, and had a daughter, Louise E. Lancaster, born Oct 1879 in CA. At the time of the 5 Jun 1880 enumeration, Albert was employed as a book salesman. Albert died sometime prior to the 1900 Census, when his daughter and widowed mother lived together at 2124 Central Avenue, Alameda, Alameda Co., CA.
