Sure hoping someone can share this line with me,.. the lady who shares my interest is not in good health and I had really hoped to find something for her to reflect on,.. to know about herself. I have not had enough time to work on this line,.. am so backlogged with 5,000 other surnames of my mother and father's family and getting all the data into a genealogy program. When I do begin to search I keep coming up dry, it's very frustrating to find link after link that is more about business, science, and everything under the sun - except genealogy. Am not very "internet adept" when it comes to making search engines narrow down the search. In addition, I am somewhat immobile during the winter seasons and cannot get to the libraries with the ease of Spring, Summer, and early Fall. What I have in regard to the kin of my parents was mostly obtained from my trips to NY & northeastern PA. I know I can't afford to spend a week in Chazy which would be my best route to begin this venture into a new surname.
I am equally as interested in this line for Althea is my daughter's grandmother whom we have only had the opportunity to meet once. After a long seperation from my then "husband", I worked up the nerve to call her in hopes that she could get to know her granddaughter a little better and visa versa. I was married to someone who had previously severed all ties to his kin before I had ever met him. I had tried to encourage him to reach out to his family, in vain. Not really ever knowing why he distanced himself, I was somewhat afraid to ask (thinking I might find I'd wished I never did),.. I wrote to her without regret to find they had moved,.. eventually - after many phone calls, I found her and her husband. She is very anxious to help me and has phoned, to let me know this. I feel I have time,... but maybe not, if I want to share what I learn with her, allowing her to share it with her children & grandchildren.
This is all I have for now, however I hope to have dates in a month or two along with spouses for many of these siblings.
Father: was Charles Lancto ;raised his children in the Lake Placid area, Essex Co., NY.
Wife/Mother of his children: Marjorie/ Margarie Knight of Rochester NY & of Chazy Lake (born in Chazy Lake area, where she met her husband) Parents of Marjorie Knight were Isaac Knight and unknown wife,.. possibly (Florence (--?--))
Children Of Charles “Lancto”& Marjorie Knight:
Shirley Lancto (the oldest)
Althea (in the middle) < I suspect she was born in the 1920s.
Veronica (the youngest)
Parents of Charles Longto/Lancto:
Judd Longto and Ann Brown (of Chazy Lake area by Lyon Mountain, an old mining area, on the other side of Plattsburg,Clinton Co. NY)
Judd Longto’s family history is said to be French/Canadian. However, little if anything seems to be known.
Children of Judd Longto & Ann Brown: (Note: The family used to joke about the name change being all the fault of Marjorie Knight.)
Charles “Lancto” (above, who m. Marjorie Knight) changed last name to Lancto
Judd Jr. “Lancto” who also changed his last name from Longto.
John Longto who never married and kept the name Longto
Am so looking forward to hearing from one of you,.. if and when I do, I would like you to know that I am always more then willing to keep in touch with up dates of new information and the details of search locations - I am not secretive.
