Thank you for listing your Lanford line. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect anyone you listed to my Lanford line.
My line is from:
James Lanford born 1740 in VA. died 1822 married to
Mary Francis Lowry born 1742 in VA. died 1781 in VA.
William Lanford born 1775 in Spartanburg SC died 1863 in Woodruff, SC. married to
Jane Leatherwood born 1783 in VA. died 1860 in Woodruff, SC.
David Lanford born 1814 in Spartanburg, SC died 1872 in Spartanburg, SC. married to
Caroline Lee born 1825 in Alabama died 1879 in Spartanburg, SC.
Thomas Andrew Lanford born 1861 in Spartanburg, SC died 1926 married to
Diana Lee Godfrey born 1863 in Woodruff, SC died 1928 in Spartanburg, SC.
Our family had heard, through oral history, that General Robert E. Lee was a relative, but we have been unable to make the connection. If it is true, then we had thoughts that it might have been through Caroline Lee, (we do not have any other information about her except what is stated), or through Diana Lee Godfrey.
But, hearing that you had a relative that was named Robert E. Lee Lanford was very interesting, and I thought that maybe I would be able to find a link. Unfortuately, I do not see any connection (from the names listed) between our lines.
Thank you so much for taking the time to try to help us. Maybe, someone else will be able to make a connection with both of our Lanford lines.
