My Lanigans were in Connaught province in the mid-late 1700's, then in Balyshannon, Donegal, in the early 1800's. There was an Alexander Lanigan born about 1775 but family history has him going to N. America and never marrying. The Elliotts were from Ballyshannon and friends of the Lanigans both there and in Three Rivers, Quebec, after both families' arrival in the 1830's. The name Alexander is not repeated anywhere else that I am aware of. GP
