Just came across your post re Alexander Elliott and Ann Lanigan. Ann was my greatgrandfather's sister. I have most of the Lanigan history and I know that my grandmother wrote about Ann and Alexander's children in her diary, particularly Jeremiah who owned a store here in Richmond with his brother-in-law James Ginn. I have more information on the Ginns. Richmond is about eight miles from Ulverton. At one time (the 1881 census) there were almost ten Elliott families living in the Ulverton, South Durham and L'Avenir area. I don't believe there are any today. The Elliotts came over from Ireland the same year as the Lanigans (1836), both families from Ballyshannon.
I'd be interested in hearing what you found out from your post. It's been two years. Hope you get this.
