According to a letter dated 13 September 1830 (perhaps 1836) to George Simmons of Bennington, Vermont from H.A. Desaussure of Charleston (apparently in response to a letter from George Simmons dated 21 August) --- a sister of this George Simmons had married a Mr. William Lansdell and had 3 children named William, Sarah Ann, and Mary Ann. They had a farm 7 miles from Charleston and were often in Charleston during the summer months to avoid "country fever". The letter indicates that Mr. Desaussure had taken George "under his care" as a child and then had lost touch with George for many years. Other people mentioned as having an interest in long lost George Simmons were Maria (George's sister or H.A. Desaussure's daughter?), Mrs. Jackson (formerly Mrs. McCredie), Mr. Tell, and Desaussure's children (daughter Sarah who married Dr. Baron, son Henry who graduated as a physician, and son john who was working in a counting house).
