Part of the problem seems to be the proliferation of the Lanthrips!!! And they seemed to use the same given names in the same generations. To the best of my knowledge John B.'s parents are still a mystery. A family legend in the McKnight family is that John B was the illegitimate son of Thomas Lantrip son of Shadrack and Catherine (Croft) Lantrip. The mother was Roseanna (either Menser or Esmond or whatever) who md. Oza McKnight and raised John B. John B. and Mary Krismond (sic) were my gggrandparents. My ggfather was Thomas Y Lanthrip whose dtr Virgie Josephine md. my grandfather Robert H. Heflin in 1899.
