Hi to everyone, Im trying to find any information on this surname. My g-g-g-g grandfather was David Lapeous born abt 1800 +- 5 years. He married Hannah Head about 1825. I found Hannah in 1850 in the village of Cohoes, New York. David is not in the house but there are Almira, David a son, John and Elizabeth. One of thier children was Almira Lapeous/Lapes or Lappeous born 1830 who married Asaph Borst from Schoharie County, New York about 1852. the 1850 cencus has a surname spelling of Lapes, a NYS 1855 Census Record has Almyra stating her maden name as Lappeus and her death certificate 1905 states her father was David Lapeous. Is there any source on the web that discusses this surname and where it originated from? Also was there any reason why a Lapes would change the surname to Lapeous? thanks Notify Administrator about this message?
