Do you know what other German names were in this community? My g grandfather was David B. Croft /Craft who raised his family in the Bonbrook section of Franklin Co Va. David's son Samuel Houston, married Matilda Mae Weaver and I just found Matilda's gravesite at the Rehobeth UM Church Cemetery in Rocky Mount. In that cemetery are many Laprades and some married with Weavers. I cant get my pics to download or I would send them to you, but the cemetery is not large at all. It has a lot of Weavers and Laprades and several CRAFTs, and of course some others I cant recall. My Croft/Craft family used both spellings. There is a Jacob Craft there, too, who is very likely related to my Crofts (Maybe my grandfather's brother).
Another Jacob Craft was my David Croft'sbrother and he spelled his name with the A and migrated across the country to finally reaching Oregon. He never saw or heard from his family since before the Civil War according to a narrative of his for Oregon history.
I am interested in the name Magdeline, too. My grandfather had a sister named Mary Magdeline but I dont know right now if I ever knew her married name. There are several Magdelines through my Croft lines. They are supposed to have come to Va sometime before 1800 from Pennsylvania and the family originiated in the Prussian settlement of Germany.
Any tips and clues are very welcome.
