Rae,
My husband's father was named Merritt, his grandfather was named Benjamin, his great-grandfather was named Merritt (according to his grandfather's death record]. So I have been looking for information about Merritt. I picked up John's info on Ancestry.com, "Family Trees", titled Descendants of William Clendening" dated May 10, 2003 andby Sawdus tsuzy@??? It lists the info you had about John D. as well as some census records on his family from 1840 - 1860. I think John d. is buried at cedar Creek Cemetary, Hope Twp., Barry Co. MI. Seneca (B. 1826. NY), Cyrus (B. 1828 NY0, Esther (B. 1832), Merritt (B. 1834}, and Reuben (B. 1836 in Ashtaboula, Ohio}.
I wish I had information on Merritt's children to see if he had a son named Benjamin so I would know I have the right Merritt. I would also like to know more about John Dand when he came to this country , and from where.
Mary Larabee
