I have no idea what faith John Riley was. However, his brother's descendants say he was from England. He might have come from Ireland by way of England.William E. Larkins was Irish. All of his descendants agree about that.William E. Larkins was born in Tennessee in 1794.A lot of us believe that it is he that is listed in Somerset in the 1810 census. His father's name was James Larkins.Which James Larkins is another matter.William E. Larkins served in the War of 1812 for the Pennsylvania militia about 1813.Much of his salary went to his father. He married Rachel Reed in 1814.She was the grand daughter of John Reed and Thankful Honowell.John Reed was a distinguished officer in the Revolutionary War. William E. and Rachel'sfirst child was Jeremiah Reed Larkins born in Somerset Pennsylvania.William E. and Rachel moved to Perry County Ohio and then on to Pennsylvania. They were members of the Primitive Baptist Church.William E. was an elder in the Primitive Baptist church until he was dismissed about 1845.He went by Larkin there. He had eleven children including Jeremiah.Seven were born in Perry County Ohio, and three in Marshall County
Illinois. In 1847 he and Rachel and all of his children except Jeremiah went to Oregon on the Oregon Trail.Jeremiah had married Sarah Ann Davis. She was the daughter of Dr. Thomas H. Davis and Elizabeth Eaton.Sarah's grandfather was Dr. David Eaton. Herfamily had been Primitive Baptist Ministers and doctors. Her grand father Rev. Isaac Eaton helped establish the church in Hopewell New Jersey and was given honorary degrees from Princeton for establishing the firstcollege for Baptistministers on the continent.Elizabeth Eaton's ancestry also can be traced to the Borden's of New Jersey.Dr. Thomas H. Davis died in 1826 and Elizabeth, Sarah's mother remarried toElder James B. Chenoweth in Mt. Gilead Virginia. They moved west and he was a prominent member of the Primitive Baptist church in Bureau County Illinois. Elizabeth and Elder James had several children of their own.Sarah had three children with Jeremiah William, Elizabeth and Norah.William and Elizabeth are the only ones who lived to adulthood.Jeremiah then married Keturah Haily. She was of Welch descent and born in Tennessee. She was also an orphan. She and Jeremiah had twelve children.Meanwhile Jeremiah's son William married Margaret Sturm. They had ten children.Jeremiah and Keturah's children had children. Thus there are many descendant Larkins in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and Oregon.
