Johanson Larson Name Change

How do you find out if someone legally changed their name in the early 1900s in michigan and where would you start looking? I was told my great-grandfather Carl Albert legally changed his lastname from Johanson to Larson in Marquette, Michigan when he came to the United States. He is from Sweden.
