Bob;
I've been researching my Larson family in NYC for some time, but have hit wall after wall searching everything from in-person searches @ libraries and courts in Manhattan, mailings to Vital Stats in Albany, to the various parishes of Catholic Church in the Bronx, etc...
The person(s) I am searching for are my paternal grandfather's immediate family.I can only give so much info because of what I was told by my Dad - whose name, incidentally, is Bob Larson - and his mother's folks.
My thought is that I may be dealing with the undocumented birth of my grandfather, which is why the government cannot locate his records in Albany, Bronx, Manhattan, etc.I have absolutely no positive idea of siblings, but there was talk of a sister who died as a baby and a brother who lived to maturity, but left for parts unknown.(So much for word-of-mouth!!)
Anyway, here goes:
Grandpa:
James Matthew Larson, b. 3/3/1908 @ Bronx, NY - d. 1/2/1980 @ Wichita, Kansas - (long story, but I found him thru SSDI and got his death cert. from KS Vital Stats.They listed his mother as #2 below.)
His father: (who was thought to be a Czech originally named Zajkowski - or some derivation thereof - who took his wife's name - Larson - when they came thru Ellis IS.)
Paul (Zajkowski) Larson, b. ? Sweden or Czechoslovakia ... (we think), d. ?, (most likely Bronx, NY)
James' mother:(two possibilities)
1).Anna Larson, b.? d.? - (according to family 'tradition')
2).Julia Kampe / Kempe, b.? d.? - (according to Kansas Vital Stats, i.e., JML's death cert.)
Of course, it's entirely possible - and I am beginning to believe it's the truth - that Paul was born a Larson and his wife, Julia Kampe / Kempe was the Czech (that is, if there is any Czech in the family at all!!)
Any of this sound familiar to you?Do you have common names in your tree, i.e., cousins or siblings?The dates of your posting are nearly perfect for the 'history' that our family understands to be true.I've been working on this, literally, for years now, so ANY help you can offer will be simply outstanding!!!
Best Regards,
Jim Larson
