Robert V. Larson was born November 3, 1933, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Thor and Mary (Keller) Larson. He grew up and received his education in Grand Forks. On March 15, 1952, he was united in marriage to Dorothea Britten at Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. He then went to work for the Great Northern Railroad in Grand Forks. Later, Robert went to work for his father as a bricklayer. He was an active bricklayer in Grand Forks and Thief River Falls, MN for 37 years. Robert managed the Family Bowl in Thief River Falls for several years before purchasing Bob's Broadway Bowl in Slayton, Minnesota. Robert and Dorothea owned and operated this business for 10 years. In 1996, they retired and moved to Battle Lake, Minnesota. Robert was a member of the National Guard from 1952 to 1962. While in Slayton, he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club. He was the secretary for Bricklayers Local 12 for many years and was an active member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers for 37 years. Robert was currently a member of First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, golfing, sports, woodworking, crossword puzzles, walking, painting, drawing and birdwatching. He particularly enjoyed spending time and visiting with family and friends. Robert always had a smile on his face and kept a positive perspective on life. Robert died Monday, November 29, 2004, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota at the age of 71.
He is survived by his wife Dorothea, Battle Lake, MN; two daughters: Linda (David) Kopecky, Roosevelt, MN and Laura (Brett) Lee, Lindstrom, MN; two sons: Rick (Joanne) Larson, Shoreview, MN and Russ (Cindy) Larson, Brainerd, MN; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marilyn (Paris) Guy, Westminster, CO; Helen Sanders, East Grand Forks, MN and Lois Fontaine, Grand Forks, ND; and one brother John Larson, Burnsville, MN. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and one brother William.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, December 2, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, MN with Rev. George Dahl officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral Home: Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake, MN.
